Our verdict on Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Passion, love and a lot of tears, all emotions evoked while watching Queen Charlotte’s story. The internet is calling this the best in the Bridgerton series and I second this! Cory Mylchreest, who plays a young Prince George and India Amarteifio, who plays a young Princess Charlotte absolutely captivated the hearts of the nation in their tumultuous relationship.

The series starts with a stubborn Queen Charlotte who is summoned to get married to Prince George of England, a man she has never met and has no choice in marrying. However, as the series goes on we see how their love progresses while getting through their issues. We see Queen Charlotte soften up and become more understanding to King George and his illness. My favourite scene is a universal one. “I will stand with you between the heavens & the Earth… Do you love me?” A real demonstration of their love, in that scene you can see the emotion, the fire and the spark between them.

We see the pressure put on King George by his mother and ‘the institution’ that I believe automatically gave him anxiety and caused him to have a breakdown. His farmer George complex was a result of the constant stress on his shoulder. It really does make you look side eye at the whole situation given what we know about Prince Harry and Meghan now. It really turns on your compassionate switch and makes you really feel for King George. We even see Queen Charlotte from really naive to a really hard rigid Queen. You see how her experiences really moulded her and you begin to sympathise with her where in previous series she was deemed as the wicked witch, you understand her reasoning behind it.

What really makes this season special is the relationship that the cast holds even after the series ends. We see in numerous press runs and even bts videos the bond that the cast hold. India and Corey's relationship is as real on camera as it is off camera and we aren’t even talking romantically. The spark these two have is genius, the chemistry between them is one that we all dream of having in a best friend. Even to see how similar India and Golda are from mannerisms and even down to their taste just makes you fall in love with the cast all over again.

We don’t see how any other Bridgerton series could top this. We are ready for a re-run with a box of tissues at the ready, we just want to fall in love with this love story all over again.
