Five TV Shows The W Editor’s Recommend That You Binge Watch
  1. Power Book II: Ghost

50 Cent’s Powerbook II is back for another season featuring modern day heartthrob Tariq St Patrick! Whilst fighting against the trajectory of his father Ghost, Tariq just keeps showing us that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and we can’t get enough.

Where to watch: Amazon Prime

  1. BMF

Another one of 50’s genius creations, Black Mafia Family, captures the art of story telling by depicting the real life story of brothers Demetrius Flenory ‘Big Meech’ and Terry Flenory ‘J-Bo’ and their come up off the streets of Detroit.

What makes this story even better is that 50 Cent recruited Lil Meech’s son and put him in acting school for two years to play his father, giving him an opportunity to take another route to his father.

  1. Bel Air

Bel Air is a remake of the classic 90’s hit TV show Fresh Prince of Bel Air, starring Jabari Banks as the protagonist Will Smith.

The concept remains unchanged from the '90s sitcom. Will moves across the country from West Philly and up several economic stratospheres to live with his aunt and uncle, their kids, and their butler.

Only now, Will is a top basketball prospect who winds up with a target on his back after a pick-up game goes the wrong way.

One thing also hasn’t changed — Hilary’s fabulous wardrobe. We call first dibs!

  1. Blood and Water

We are taking it to the motherland, Africa — South Africa where Puleng and the Khumalo family reside. Puleng goes to extreme lengths in an attempt to find her long lost baby sister and reunite her family.

The show will pull all your heartstrings and take you through a rollercoaster of emotions. It’s hands down the best African drama we have seen in a long time and has really put South Africa on the map.

Where to watch: Netflix

  1. Top Boy

We had to give homage to the UK and include Top Boy. The 2011 UK classic was revived by Drake in 2019 and saw a cheeky feature from Dave, a personal fave.

Whilst it is a slightly exaggerated stereotype of the UK urban culture, the show stars our favourite British duo, Ashley Walters and Kano, as well as upcoming East London actor Micheal Ward, who have been globally recognised by the likes of 50 Cent.
